October 22 FREE HUGS?!My sister, Carla sent me the link to this awesome music video. I just had to share it with you here. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vr3x_RRJdd4&eurl= Made me get all misty eyed! I need a hug!! Thank you for sharing that link with me, Carla!
I'm trying to do better about writing on my blog. Pretty soon my schedule will be slowing down and maybe I'll have more time. Brandon will be done with Football this Friday. Logan is done and lettered in Football last Thursday. He was pretty excited. I have heard rumors that Brandon is interested in track......here we go again!
I learned how to do European Stitchery last Wednesday at my stitching group. If you don't know what that is it is like string art on card stock paper, done with a tiny needle and metalic threads. I made a cross that was very pretty, I am supposed to cut it out and mount it on a slightly larger contrasting colored square and then on another longer strip for a bookmark. Everyone was pretty excited about watching me learn that they all want to do it this coming Wednesday. We have picked out an angel pattern to do. I'll share pics of that next week.
I've been working on this ugly duckling pattern. http://www.freepatterns.com/fp_pdfs/Other/Crochet/The_Ugly_Duckling.pdf
I was having quite a time with the tail and frogged almost the entire thing and reworked it. Amazing that time it all just fell into place. I'll post pics when I have him done. I bought some really cute rubber duckie fleece to crochet around to go with my ugly duckling. I have it cut to size, curved the edges and now I need to poke the holes around the outside before I can start to crochet the edging.
I'm still working on my halloween gifts for my office. A lady also got my name from an aquaintance to do some flip flops for her granddaughters for Christmas. I have a possibility of 2 name doilies to make for orders also--those have not been confirmed yet though. Could be a busy fall/winter season for my crocheting!
October 12 It's been a long time....It's been a long time since I've written on my blog. Just never seems to be enough time or anything interesting to write about. I've been keeping busy with the boys and their football schedules. Brandon plays for the JV team and dresses for the Varsity team (home games only). Logan plays for the 7th grade team and plays his games on Tuesday nights. Brandon has 4-5 games left and Logan is done! Uncle Chris came to watch Logan's last game and to take pictures of him playing for me. That was pretty special to Logan. He talked about how he saw us along the fence line watching him play.
My stitching group has started up again at church every Wednesday night. I've had about 5-7 people in attendance. It is nice to get together with people who have the same interests. A couple are cross-stitching, 3-4 of us crochet, my sister has been bringing her embroidery...I hope it grows. A lady in my group, Leanne, wants to do a project where we all crochet the same item. She really wants us to crochet a christmas angel--the kind that you starch and it stands up. I have been looking at patterns for them. They are pretty, but have never made one. I think I am ready to try one now.
Things I've been crocheting since I wrote last? I've made a couple of stocking hats, baby afghans, a stuffed polar bear, a name doily, some felted purses (very fun!!), a cradle purse. Now I'm making some holiday gifts for my office. I'd post them, but I know some people from work check my blog and tell me that I need to write on it. I'll have to wait to tell you what those items are after those holidays pass.
Our Pastor, Rev. Andrea announced last Sunday that she and her husband Josh are expecting their first baby in May. I'm now on the hunt for an afghan pattern to make for them. I think I know what it will be, but I want to do some more looking around before I decide. The other night at Walmart I picked up some rubber duckie fleece to crochet around. I've always wanted to try that. I'm going to start on it next week. I think it will be a quick project. This lady on www.crochetville.org makes them and also crochets a color coordinated stuffed animal to go along with it. I think that would be cute if I made a crocheted duckie to go along with the fleece blanket. I've found 2 duckie patterns to choose from. We'll see.
Onto another note: I've had this desire lately to start reading the Bible more frequently. After the year I had last year I turned to God more to help me through. Anyway, I have recently purchased two Bibles where I should be able to read through it in one year. I'm working on it slowly. I've also purchased some Chicken Soup for The Soul Books. Those really touch my heart. I can only read one or two stories before I have to put it down and read something else. I find myself wanting to read more stories, but at the beginning of the Chicken Soup for the Soul book it says to read one story at a time and just absorb it. That is really good advice. Some stories can be a little emotionally draining. I've also been listening a lot more to uplifting Christian music. It has really helped me through some rough times.
I was ill yesterday and stayed home from work. I slept most of the time. It wasn't until about 2 pm today that I started to feel a little more like myself. The kids had a hayrack ride for Youth Group. Brandon stayed behind due to an overload of homework. Logan seemed to have a good time.
That's all for now! I'll try to keep this updated more often!!
April 29 Good Morning!Good Morning to all my friends and family! First off, I need to say Happy 40th birthday to my friend Victoria Mikesell. I hope it is a great one!
It is raining outside. Yuck! Not a good day to go out and run errands. I'm going to meet my friend Sonja at Hickory Park for lunch. That will be nice. Then I think I'll run to Hobby Lobby. I haven't been there in probably a month. Time to go check out the yarn!
What is going on on the crochet front? Well, I think since I posted last I have completed the dress that I was testing. It turned out cute. It is now just waiting for a little girl to wear it. I think I'll put it away for a grand-daughter someday--many many years down the road. I made 50 little Easter egg bunnies that I gave out to co-workers and friends. Then I have made two teddy bears. I got the pattern from a friend (crochet_queen) from c'ville. Mine aren't as cute as hers, but they are still loveable. (Pictures are in my crochet album at the top right) Also, I'm currently making a name doily for a gal at work. Her daughter is getting married and she wants it as a wedding present.
My stitching group isn't hitting it off too well. I'm kind of bummed. The first week we only had 5 and this past week only 2 showed plus me. I am blaming it on the weather being so nice that no one wants to come sit inside to stitch. Maybe this fall we will have a better turnout. If not, I'll just do like I always did in the past--crochet at home alone. And that's ok too. Maybe I need to invite other people out in the public. So far it was only announced in church. I should print up some flyers to post around for the fall. We'll see.
Last time I wrote, I said that Redekers was delivering my new bed. Here is a picture of it. I love it! Took me awhile to get used to it since it is not the normal boxspring. It is laytex.
That's all for now. I'll try to do better at posting more often.
March 30 Busy busy busyIt's been a few days since I've written. I have been fortunate enough to be asked to be a pattern tester for a wonderful lady named Lisa. The pattern I"m testing is a little girl's ruffly dress. I'm making it out of a very pretty light purple yarn. I won't have much chance to work on it the next few days because I have several things coming up. I'm anxious to see what it looks like all finished. Wish I knew a little girl to wear it.
Saturday, Redekers is delivering my new bed. We are rotating beds. Brandon is getting my old one and Logan is getting Brandon's. Brandon is outgrowing his double bed since he is now 6' 2". Logan is outgrowing his single bed. I am handing down my queen to Brandon. He is excited. I have been hired to make a name doily that needs to be done by May 20. It is going to be a wedding gift. I think those always make a nice gift.
The fundraiser/auction is coming up on April 8. I have some little things I need to get baked and made for the auction. So many people have donated such wonderful crocheted items. I have received 2 adorable kitties; a poncho with matching hat, a granny square tote and today I got cell phone cozy's, a little teddy bear and a crocheted ankle bracelet. A friend, Tandy, from crochetville.com has put together squares made by other friends from the site in to a lovely diabetes afghan. It too, will be auctioned off. She received 2 squares too late and put them together into a wonderful tote bag to be auctioned.
Yesterday I got a really cool crochet hook caddy from my secret pal. I really needed something like this. There is a picture posted here and in my album.
I'll will get pics of the auction donations posted in my album soon.
March 17 Thank God it's Friday!HAPPY ST. PATRICK'S DAY!!
I can't tell you how glad I am that it is Friday! I am ready for the weekend! I have finished all my crochet projects, so tonight I think I'm going to sit down and pick out another one to start.
My brother is working very hard on getting a fundraiser set up to help fight Diabetes. Here is a picture of his poster.I'm hoping for a successful turnout. I hope that we can raise a lot of money for more research on this disease. I can't imagine what it is like to live with diabetes. I learned more than I ever thought I would by having Olivia as a part of our family. She was a wonderful person. I really miss her! I added some pictures of her to my family album.
Since "Olivia's Stitching Time" (the new stitching group I'm starting up) is held in my church we have to do a devotional time before we can socialize. I ordered 2 books from amazon.com and they came yesterday. One is actually a devotional book for needlework lovers (By His Pattern). The other book is a women's devotional. I think they will be nice to read from. March 16 Baby Afghan and Caterpillar Done!I finished the baby afghan for my cousin's baby shower. I decided to use up some of the leftover yarn to make a caterpillar. It turned out so cute. I got the pattern from KristieMN from crochetville. It was a super simple pattern--awesome directions. Thanks Kristie! I think it makes a nice something extra special to go with the blanket!
March 15 HAPPY BIRTHDAY Carla!Today is my sister Carla's 35th Birthday! HAPPY BIRTHDAY and I hope it is a great one!
I wanted to share that I've been having a lot of fun with crochetville.org swaps and such. I did a purse/bag swap last month. There is a picture of the bag I made in the photo album. It is 18 granny squares single crocheted together. I think it turned out quite nice. I would like to have one for myself, but I am kind of burned out on piecing it together. The purse I got in the swap is also posted. It is made from blue nylon cording. It is very nice.
I'm also doing a secret pal swap. I have gotten 3-4 electronic cards and a navy crocheted scarf from my secret pal. The picture is in my album to the right.
I think I've sent some pretty cool stuff to my secret pal. I can't tell you just in case she happens to read my blog! The idea behind the secret pal swap is that you send gifts Feb 15-April 15. I have like 3 more packages to send out. I have to say that she is getting spoiled! There is a $25 limit and I've stayed right in that range.
On March 24, I am going with a friend to see The Prisoner of Second Avenue. http://www.center.iastate.edu/Events/Prisoner.asp I'm pretty excited to see this play. I'll post a review the next day.
April 19th is the day that our stitching group called "Olivia's Stitching Time" will begin. I am so anxious for this to start. I hope that we have a nice turn out and that everyone is as enthusiastic about it as I am. I already have my crochet project picked out that I want to start on that night. I'm thinking about a teddy bear that is wearing a dress/hat/panties.
Better go work on the baby afghan that is almost finished. I can post pics of that later!
March 12 Welcome!Welcome to my space! I'm so excited to get this thing up and running. My name is Teresa and this is my Crochet Cafe! As you can see I have put a bunch of pics of my projects that I've made recently. I love to crochet. It is my favorite past time!
As a matter of fact, another gal and myself are starting up a stitching group that is going to meet Wednesday nights at our church. I am so hoping that it is a success. I'll let you know how it goes. Our first gathering is taking place April 19.
Right now I'm working on a baby afghan for my cousin who is expecting a baby in August. I'm not using the typical "baby" colors, but I think it is adorable. I'll post a picture of that when it is complete.
That's all for right now. |
